find out 발견하다, 알아내다

 

She was angry when Jane found out her secret. 

그녀는 제인이 자기의 비밀을 알아내어 화가 났다.

 

figure out 1. 이해하다(=make out, understand) 2. 계산하다

 

1. I can't figure him out.

나는 그가 무슨 말을 하는 건지 이해할 수가 없다.

 

2. Will you figure out how much  money we need?

돈이 얼마나 필요한지 계산해 줄래?

 

run out (of) -이 바닥나다, 없어지다

 

Danny almost got across the brook on the slippery stones

but his luck ran out and he slipped and fell.

대니가 미끄러운 돌을 밟으며 개울을 거의 건넜을 때, 

행운은 사라져 그는 그만 미끄러져 물에 빠지고 말았다.

 

We'd better do our shopping, time is running out.

우리는 쇼핑을 하는게 더 나을 것 같다. 시간이 없으니까.

 

try out 시험하다 

 

The coach wants to try the new play out in the first game.

코치는 첫 경기에서 새로운 플레이를 시험해 보고 싶어한다.

 

She tried golf out to see if she would like it. 

그녀는 골프가 적성에 맞는지 알아보기 위해 시험삼아 쳐 보았다.

I looked over several kinds of new cars before deciding. 

나는 결정하기 전에 몇 종류의 새 차를 검토해 보았다.

 

She spent the evening looking over the month's bill and writing checks. 

그녀는 월 청구서를 검토하고 쓰며 저녁 시간을 보냈다.

 

pass over 무시하다, 고려치 않다(=ignore)

 

I can pass over the disorderliness of the troops, but their disobedience is serious. 

나는 군대의 무질서함은  보아 넘길 수 있지만 그들의 불복종은 심각하다.

 

She was unattractive, the kind of a girl that everybody would pass over. 

그녀는 모든 사람들이 무시할 만한 그런 부류의 매력없는 소녀였다.

At night cars often run over small animals that are blinded by the head lights. 

밤이면 종종 자동차들이 불빛에 앞을 볼 수 없게 된 작은 동물들을 치곤 한다.
