제8장 형용사
  

형용사는 명사나 대명사를 수식하는 역할을 하며, 한정적 용법과 서술적 용법으로 쓰인다. 

형용사의 용법 및 명사를 수식할 때의 위치에 주의한다.

 

1. 한정적 용법과 서술적 용법:

형용사는 명사를 앞이나 뒤에서 수식하는 한정적 용법과

보어 역학을 하는 서술적 용법으로 쓰인다.

This is a high tower. (한정적 용법)

This tower is high. (서술적 용법)

한정적 용법으로만 쓰이는 형용사: drunken, elder, fallen, lone, main, only 등

서술적 용법으로만 쓰이는 형용사: afraid, alike, alive, glad, sorry 등

 

2. 형용사의 위치
English is a difficult language.

He found a bottle full of wine.
Please give me something cold to drink.
  

3. 수량형용사
He has a few friends here.(조금 있는) (수)
He has few friends here.(거의 없는)
I have a little money left.(조금 있는) (양)
I have little money left.(거의 없는)

1. 다음 문장을 보기와 같이 바꿔 쓰시오.

한정적 용법으로 쓰인 형용사를 서술적 용법으로 바꿔 쓴다.

보충학습: 

(1) asleep은 서술적 용법으로만 쓰인다, (3) keep + 형용사 (...한 상태로 있다), 

(4) be (__) with... (...에 만족하다)
  

3. 다음 문장을 밑줄 친 부분에 유의하여 우리말로 옮기시오.

보충학습:

(1) look은 불완전동사로 주격보어가 필요, (2) 목적격 보어로 쓰이고 있다,

(4) -thing으로 끝나는 대명사를 수식할 때

 

5. 다음 문장의 괄호 안에서 알맞은 것을 고르시오.
(1) Do you have (any, some) books in your bag?
(2) (Any, Some) child can read this book.
(3) As we had (any, little, few) sugar, we bought some.
(4) He invited (much, any, not a few) people to the party.

(2) 어떤 아이라도, (3) sugar는 셀 수 없는 명사, (4) not a few (꽤 많은 수의), 

(5) hundred, thousand 앞에 수사가 와서 일정한 수를 나타낼 때는 복수형으로 쓰지 않는다
