Thai Prime Minister Dissolves Parliament 

 

Thailand’s Prime Minister says snap parliamentary elections scheduled for April 2nd, will go ahead as planned. That’s despite a boycott announced by three main opposition parties. Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra’s Thai Rak Thai Party was expected to win the election handily even without a boycott. But the opposition’s decision could ratchet up the pressure on Mr. Thaksin to accept proposals for political reform. Critics accuse the Thai Prime Minister of corruption and abuse of power. Meanwhile, thousands gathered again in Bangkok on Monday, demanding Mr. Thaksin’s resignation.

 

타이 총리, 의회 해산

 

타이 총리는 4월 2일로 예정된 조기 총선이 계획대로 진행될 것이라고 밝혔습니다. 타이 총리는 주요 3대 야당의 (조기 총선) 불참 선언에도 불구하고 이같이 말했습니다. 탁신 시나와트라 총리의 ‘타이 락 타이 당’은 야당의 불참 선언이 없다해도, 총선에서 손쉽게 승리할 것으로 예상됩니다. 하지만 이 같은 야당의 결정으로 탁신 총리는 정치 개혁안 수용 압력을 더 받을 것으로 보입니다. 비판론자들은 총리가 부패했으며 권력을 남용했다고 비난하고 있습니다. 한편 월요일 방콕에선 수천 명이 다시 모여 탁신 총리의 퇴진을 요구했습니다.

 

April 2nd/ 날짜 읽기는 기수, 서수 둘 다 가능하다. 하지만 서수로 읽을 때는 the를 넣어야 한다는 것을 기억하자.
