You could argue this case is a publicity coup for a best-selling author

who claims he doesn’t want or need any more of it.

[The Da Vinci Code] Witness the biggest cover-up in human history.

NEWTON:

The Da Vinci Code, tens of millions of copies in print, a blockbuster film starring Tom Hanks on the way,

and the reputation of author Dan Brown on the line.

Brown’s religious thriller makes the case that Jesus married Mary Magdalene and had a family.

That fictional secret decoded in a web of intrigue depicted in Leonardo da Vinci’s paintings.

At issue in court, “Did Brown simply spin this tale or did he lift it?”

What is being alleged here is not plagiarism,

but something much more difficult to prove whether or not the author of The Da Vinci Code,

Dan Brown stole the ideas from The Holy Blood And The Holy Grail.

That work is nonfiction, but its authors claim it was their research

and theories that Brown used to captivate millions of readers.

UNIDENTIFIED MAN:

The author’s involvement is gonna be crucial in this particular case,

because one of the key issues is going to be what he actually did,

at the time he was writing this particular book,

to what extent he did or did not rely on The Holy Blood And The Holy Grail.

[The Da Vinci Code] To protect the secrets so powerful, that if revealed,

it would devastate the very foundations of mankind.

NEWTON:

This court case won’t exactly be a thriller. It will be tedious, every literary detail scrutinized.

But the opening of the movie could be impacted.

If they win, the authors of The Holy Blood And The Holy Grail,

could delay its British release and claim a share of the profits.

But what this case really does is give the lucrative Da Vinci-inspired brand still more headlines

and controversy and its media-shy author more notoriety.

You know, “Where did this guy come from?” This can only sustain the whole Dan Brown myth.

And you want controversy.

If you’re an author and you’re in the best-selling or blockbuster film business,

controversy is massively important.

and it will no doubt whet the appetite for one of the most anticipated movies of the year.

법정논란의 핵심은

‘이것이 순전히 브라운의 머리 속에서 나온 것이냐, 아니면 누군가의 아이디어를 도용한 것이냐?’하는 것입니다.

여기서 논란이 되고 있는 부분은 표절이 아니라 훨씬 더 규명하기 어려운 문제로,

<다빈치 코드>의 저자 댄 브라운이 <성혈과 성배>에서 아이디어를 도용했는지의 여부에 관한 것입니다.

이 책의 (공동) 저자들은 바로 브라운이 수천만 독자들의 마음을 사로잡기 위해 사용한 것이
