미국, 새 이민법 반대 시위 확산

Thousands Rally Against U.S. Immigration Law 

 

Thousands of people, many originally from Latin-American countries took to the streets on Monday in Los Angeles and other cities. Many are angry over a bill passed by the House of Representatives that would stiffen penalties for immigrants working in the U.S. illegally. Meanwhile, a U.S. Senate committee approved its own immigration bill and the measure goes to the full U.S. Senate today. The Senate bill includes some very controversial measures, including a guest worker program that it would open the door to citizenship for millions of people currently in the U.S. illegally.

대부분 중남미 출신인 수천 명의 시민들이 월요일LA를 비롯한 여타 도시에서 가두 시위를 벌였습니다. 이들은 최근 하원에서 통과된, 미국 내 불법 체류 노동자 처벌 강화 법안에 분노하고 있습니다. 한편 미 상원 (법사) 위원회는 독자적인 이민 법안을 승인, 오늘 상원 전체 회의에 넘겼습니다. 상원 이민법안에는 큰 논란이 될 만한 몇몇 조항들이 포함되어 있는데 현재 미국에 체류하고 있는 수백만의 불법 노동자들에게 시민권 획득 기회를 열어줄 초청 노동자 프로그램도 그중 하나입니다.
