Polar Ice Is Melting 

 

Greenland is feeling the heat from global warming. A series of papers in this week’s issue of the journal Science says there is mounting evidence that global warming is melting polar ice. The researchers also say if temperatures continue to rise at their current rate by the year 2100, Arctic summers could be as warm as they were 130-thousand years ago. They say back then sea levels were six meters higher than they were today. Computer models indicate oceans could rise by up to a meter over the next 150 years.

그린란드가 지구 온난화로 인해 더워지고 있습니다. 이번 주 <사이언스> 지에 발표된 일련의 논문에 따르면 지구 온난화로 극지방 얼음이 녹고 있다는 증거들이 속속 나오고 있다고 합니다. 연구진은 현재 속도로 기온이 계속 상승하면 2100년에는 북극 지방의 여름이 13만년 전처럼 더워질 수도 있다고 말했습니다. 그 당시 해수면은 오늘날보다 6미터 정도 높았다고 합니다. 컴퓨터 모형 측정에 따르면 향후 150년 동안 바다의 해수면이 1미터 가량 상승할 것으로 나타났습니다.
