제22장 도치, 생략 구문
  

도치 구문: 

(주어 + 동사)의 어순이 문법상의 이유나 어떤 어구를 강조하기 위해 

(동사 + 주어)의 어순으로 바뀐 구문을 말한다.
  

생략 구문: 

문장을 간결하게 하기 위해, 반복되는 어구나 전후 관계로 미루어 알 수 있는 어구를 생략한 구문이다.
  

1. 도치 구문
The poor in spirit are blessed.

-> Blessed are the poor in spirit. <- 보어 강조
Her name was on the door.

-> On the door was her name. <- 부사(구) 강조
I have never seen such a place.

-> Never have I seen such a place. <- 부정어(구) 강조
A pretty girl lived in the cottage.

-> There lived a pretty girl in the cottage. <- There 구문
She is fond of children, and I am fond of children, too.

-> She is fond of children, and so am I. <- 관용적인 도치
  

2. 생략 구문
She was very beautiful when (she was) young. <- (주어 + be) 생략
Look at the picture (which was) painted by Picasso. <- (관계대명사 + be) 생략
This is the dress (which) I bought last weekend. <- 관계사 생략
I believe (that) she is not guilty. <- 접속사 that 생략
To err is human; to forgive (is) divine. <- 반복 어구 생략
You may go there if you want to (go there). <- 반복 어구 생략(대부정사 to)
No smoking (is allowed here). <- 게시문에서의 생략

부정어구 + 조동사 + 주어 + 동사원형(조동사가 없는 경우 do(does, did)를 사용)
