제26장 화법
  

본인이나 타인이 한 말의 내용을 인용 부호(" ")를 사용하여 

그대로 전달하는 방법을 직접화법이라고 하며, 

전달하는 사람의 입장으로 바꾸어 전달하는 방법을 간접화법이라고 한다. 

직접화법을 간접화법으로 바꿀 때는 수와 시제의 일치에 주의해야 한다.
  

1. 평서문의 전달: 전달동사 say -> say, say to -> tell
피전달문 앞에 접속사 that 을 쓴다. (생략되는 경우가 많다.)
He said to me, "I wrote a letter yesterday."
-> He told me (that) he had written a letter the day before.
  

부사의 변화에도 유의한다.
today -> that day,

yesterday -> the day before,

now -> then,

tomorrow -> the next day 또는 the following day,

ago -> before
  

2. 의문문의 전달
#a wh. 의문문: 전달동사 say (to) -> ask, 피전달문 -> 의문사 + 주어 + 동사
She said to the boy, "How old are you?" -> She asked the boy how old he was.

 

#b Yes/No 의문문: 전달동사 say (to) -> ask, 피전달문 -> if(whether) + 주어 + 동사
I said to her, "May I use your telephone?" -> I asked her if I might use her telephone.
  

3. 명령문의 전달
#a 일반적인 명령문: 전달동사 say (to) -> tell(ask, beg, order), 피전달문 -> to 부정사
She said, "Sit down, Tom." -> She told Tom to sit down.

 

#b Let 명령문: 전달동사 say (to) -> suggest(propose)

피전달문 -> that ~ should 절 또는 ~ing
He said, "Let's go on a picnic."
-> He suggested (proposed) that we (should) go on a picnic.
-> He suggested (proposed) going on a picnic.
-> He proposed to go on a picnic.
  

4. 감탄문의 전달: 

전달동사 say -> cry out(shout), 

피전달문 -> 감탄문 그대로의 어순 또는 very 를 첨가한 평서문
He said, "What a pretty girl she is!"
-> He cried out what a pretty girl she was.
-> He cried out that she was a very pretty girl.
